After months of investigation, our client, the Archdiocese of Chicago has filed a lawsuit to recover damages resulting from the February 4, 2009 fire at the historic Holy Name Cathedral. During the past year, Attorneys Bruce Schoumacher, Jason Callicoat, and Paralegal Janet Botts have worked with experts and contractors involved in the renovation of Holy Name Cathedral, at 735 N. State Street in Chicago. The investigation sought to determine what factors contributed to the fire and caused the resulting damages and loss of use of the Cathedral. The suit alleges negligence and product liability related to a de-icing system installed at the Cathedral. The defendants include the manufacturers of various system components, contractors who installed and maintained the system, and contractors who damaged the system but failed to de-energize it following an inspection of the damaged system.
