April Walkup will speak at the Illinois Nurse's Association Conference on March 28, 2008. Her presentation, "To Consent or Not To Consent," covers the legal foundation of consent, disclosure requirements, and proper documentation, as well as patient privacy issues.
Ms. Walkup has been a member of Querrey & Harrow’s Health Care Practice Group for more than 10 years and is now the Chair of the Employment Practice Group. She has represented physicians, nurses, hospitals and managed care organizations in complex litigation matters, and she has represented health care professionals in disciplinary proceedings before the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. She is well versed with regard to documentation required to protect and support health care institutions and professionals, particularly with regard to consent issues. Her experience with documentation is also reinforced by her employment practice, where she deals with a variety of documentation issues.
