Medical Malpractice

Our health care attorneys offer a full range of services, including the defense of medical, managed care, hospital, nursing, and psychiatric liability claims involving hospitals, nursing homes, physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, and psychologists across Illinois.  In addition to representing institutions and health professionals insured by Illinois’ largest professional liability insurers, we also represent a wide variety of self-insured medical/surgical and psychiatric hospitals ranging from large teaching institutions to smaller, community-based hospitals.  We further provide negotiation, contracting, real estate, and certain transactional services to health care clients.

This group is composed of experienced health care and trial lawyers with extensive training and formal education in complex health care issues.  It includes medically trained professionals such as a medical technologist and a registered nurse. All of our attorneys in this area are trained to communicate medical terms and theories effectively to their clients, witnesses, and jurors.

Our attorneys have developed in-house systems to stay current on medical technology, legal, and social economic issues significant to the health care community. We also actively participate in continuing education programs and seminars in health care law and furnish loss prevention and risk management presentations to health care providers.

Our attorneys have counseled individual practitioners, small to mid-size medical practices, and large institutions on medical legal issues including termination of life support, consent, EMTALA, HIPAA, and medical staff privileging.

We recognize that while medical malpractice claims have become an unfortunate part of health care services in our litigious society, the first priority of the medical professional is the practice of medicine.  We identify and respond to our clients' needs and concerns on a personal, professional, and economic level.

Although we often seek ways to resolve claims in an economical manner through alternative dispute resolutions as well as through the use of structured settlements, our attorneys are always prepared to take cases to trial.  It is our significant trial success that has made us effective negotiators and counselors.  We offer a practical approach to avoiding, conducting, and concluding litigation.
