
Thomas Carney, Jr. received his BA from the University of Notre Dame and his JD from Loyola University School of Law. While studying at Loyola, he was an associate editor of the Loyola Law Review and the recipient of the Loyola University School of Law Alumni Association Citation for Outstanding Leadership and Scholastic Achievement.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Carney worked as a trial attorney for the US Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for the investigation and analysis of complaints of employment discrimination and for all phases of class action litigation. He was appointed under the Attorney General's Employment Program for Honor Law Graduates and received the Department of Justice Commendation for Outstanding Service.
In 1980, he joined Allstate Insurance Company as an assistant counsel in their Corporate Litigation Department. As part of his responsibilities, Mr. Carney supervised the direction of all employment law litigation by or against Allstate Insurance Company and its subsidiaries. In 1984, he joined the law firm of Winston & Strawn in Chicago, where he became a member of the Bankruptcy/Commercial Group of the Litigation Department. In this position, he represented numerous Fortune 500 clients.
Currently, Mr. Carney is working in the Chicago office of Querrey & Harrow as a member of both the Employment Practice and Corporate/Commercial Groups and has conducted seminars on many employment law subjects, including sexual harassment and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
He served as president of the Notre Dame Club of Lake County from 1990-1991, is a past chairman of The Church of Saint Mary Parish Council in Lake Forest, Illinois, and is a past chairman of the Lake Forest Zoning Board of Appeals.
