Mr. Kaufmann serves as Chair of the firm's Real Estate, Banking, Estate Planning and Corporate/Commercial Practice Groups. He is distinguished as AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
He has represented clients in a wide range of real estate issues including sales/purchases, zoning, environmental compliance, and lease negotiations. The firm’s real estate clients have ranged from Fortune 500 companies like State Farm and Royal Dutch Shell to local developers. Mr. Kaufmann has represented both small community banks and larger regional banks with regard to loan documentation, regulatory matters, litigation and collection. He also represents physicians and dentists in the sale and purchase of medical practices and in their general business matters.
Mr. Kaufmann has represented high net-worth individuals for many years. He has established thousands of trusts and other asset protection instruments. He also has represented individuals in employment contract negotiations, including contract extensions, renewals and non-compete agreements.
Mr. Kaufmann is a member of the Chicago and Illinois Bar Associations and has served on numerous subcommittees including Real Property, Banking, Business Law and Probate. He regularly lectures on the subjects of mechanics liens and estate planning.
Mr. Kaufmann has been a longstanding member and is currently a Director of the Boothroyd Foundation, whose primary focus is Parkinsons research and the care of patients suffering from Parkinsons disease. The Foundation funds local institutions and their research staff such as the University of Illinois and its School of Nursing.
